When to Visit Mallorca — Best Time of Year

Mallorca is a year-round destination, but the experience you will have on the island can vary dramatically depending on when you visit. Understanding the seasonal differences can help you plan a trip that perfectly matches your expectations, whether you are seeking lively nightlife, outdoor adventure, cultural exploration, or quiet relaxation by the sea.

Spring

Spring in Mallorca usually brings pleasant temperatures ranging from around 15°C to 22°C between March and May, making it one of the most comfortable seasons for exploring the island. Days become longer, rainfall gradually decreases compared to winter, and outdoor conditions are ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and sightseeing

During this period, the landscapes are particularly green after the winter rains, and the countryside begins to bloom. The famous almond blossoms, which typically appear between late January and February, may still be visible in some rural areas at the beginning of the season. Spring is also a good time to visit popular destinations such as the Serra de Tramuntana villages, coastal viewpoints, and historic towns without the larger crowds that arrive during the summer months. Beaches remain relatively quiet, and accommodation prices are often lower than during the peak tourist season.

Summer

Summer in Mallorca, from June to September, is the warmest and busiest time of the year. Daytime temperatures often range between 28°C and 35°C, especially in July and August, while the sea becomes warm enough for comfortable swimming across most beaches. This is the season when beach life is at its peak.

Popular areas such as Palma, Alcúdia, and the south coast beaches are lively, with boat trips, beach clubs, and water activities operating throughout the day. Many travellers spend their time swimming, exploring coastal coves, or taking boat excursions along the island’s shoreline.

Because summer is the high tourist season, accommodation and flights tend to be more expensive and popular beaches can become crowded, particularly in August. Booking hotels, car rentals, and popular activities in advance is usually recommended during this period.

Autumn

Autumn in Mallorca, particularly September and October, brings slightly cooler temperatures while the sea remains warm after the summer months. Daytime temperatures usually range between 22°C and 28°C, creating comfortable conditions for both beach visits and exploring the island.

This period is often considered one of the most pleasant times to visit Mallorca. Popular beaches and towns become less crowded compared to the peak summer season, while restaurants, cafés, and coastal areas still maintain a lively atmosphere.

Autumn is also a great time for scenic drives, hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana, and visiting villages across the island, as the temperatures are more comfortable for outdoor activities.

Winter

Winter in Mallorca, from November to February, offers a much quieter atmosphere compared to the busy summer months. Average daytime temperatures typically range between 12°C and 17°C, and while swimming conditions are limited, many days remain sunny and pleasant for exploring the island.

This season is well suited for sightseeing, hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana, and visiting towns and villages without crowds. Palma continues to stay lively throughout the winter, with museums, restaurants, markets, and cultural events open year-round. The cooler months are also a good time to explore the island’s countryside, scenic coastal drives, and historic villages at a slower pace.

For travellers interested in a more relaxed and authentic side of Mallorca, winter can be an appealing period, particularly for longer stays or remote work.

Why Spring and Autumn Are Often the Best Choice

The ideal time to visit Mallorca often depends on the type of experience you are looking for. Many travellers consider late spring and early autumn — particularly May, June, September, and early October — among the most comfortable months to explore the island.

During this period, temperatures are warm, the sea is usually pleasant for swimming, and most restaurants, hotels, beach clubs, and activities are fully open. At the same time, the island tends to be less crowded than during the peak summer months of July and August.

These shoulder-season months offer a balanced combination of good weather, active tourism infrastructure, and a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing visitors to enjoy Mallorca’s beaches, villages, and landscapes without the intensity of the busiest part of the summer season.
